New federal music database

A new copyright bill was introduced to the House Judiciary Committee on July 20, 2017.
It calls for the creation of a database of nondramatic musical works and sound recordings maintained by the Copyright Office. It would include searchable information to make it easier for people wanting to publically perform nondramatic musical works to figure out who to get a license from.

Importantly, the bill limits the damages you can recover from infringers who relied on the information found in the database.
